TCP/IP and Networking Fundamentals Training Videos

TCP/IP and Networking Fundamentals Training Videos
Hi, I'm Ed Liberman. My series of free videos on TCP/IP and Networking Fundamentals covers all of the basics you need to truly understand TCP/IP and get a solid foundation in networking.

This free video series focuses on TCP/IP theory and some important networking concepts including the OSI model, IP addressing, binary numbers, IPv6 and more.

Check out the videos and let me know what you think!

Lesson 1: Course Introduction

Just a quick course intro, only about half a minute long.
Lesson 2: What is a Protocol

Learn what a protocol is and how it is used for communication between computers on a network. You will also get a chance understand the OSI model — what it is and what it does.

Lesson 3: What is TCP/IP?

Gain an understanding of what TCP/IP is by learning about the architecture and the different protocols, including the Transport Layer and Internet Layer protocols, that work together to make up the TCP/IP protocol suite.

Lesson 4: Configuring an IP Address

Learn what an IP Address and Subnet Mask are and how they work together. Practice configuring an IP address, viewing a computer's IP configuration, and checking for connectivity with other computers.

Lesson 5: IP Address Planning

This video discusses planning an IP addressing scheme, rules for IP addressing, classful IP addressing, and Network Address Translation (NAT). You will also see the difference between private vs. public IP addressing.

Lesson 6: Binary Numbers

Lesson 6 delves into binary numbers and how they relate to IP addressing. Learn what the difference between decimal and binary numbering systems is, how to convert decimal to binary and how to do it on your calculator.

Lesson 7: Internetworking

Starting with a brief review of what an IP address is and how it is broken apart, you'll get a better idea of what a router and default gateway are. The video focuses on internetworking providing you with an introduction to client configuration and subnetting.

Lesson 8: Classless Interdomain Routing (CIDR)

Lessono 8 focuses on Classless Interdomain Routing (CIDR) and covers:

• Problems with Classful IP Addressing
• Variable Length Subnet Masks
• Subnetting with CIDR & VLSM
• Formulas
• Basic Network
• CIDR Notation

Lesson 9: Fundamentals of IPv6

In the last video you will learn the fundamentals of IPv6, including IPv6 solutions and addressing. You will also learn a little bit about IPv4 and its disadvantages.
